History of San Francisco

Prior to the European exploration of San Francisco, many native tribes known as Yelamu group of the Ohlone people settled in the San Francisco Area. The early European exploration began in the 1500s, however the initial colonization of the regions of San Francisco began in 1700s with the discovery of the the Presidio of San Francisco and Mission Dolores. The year 1848 is marked as an important era in the history of San Francisco due to the discovery of gold in Coloma. San Francisco witnessed improvements in business and trade, post the establishment of the 1856 Committee of Vigilance. The committee helped immensely in the cleanup of crime in the city. The construction of Ferry Building was one of the biggest landmarks in the transportation system of San Francisco.

In the early 1930s, the Ferry Building became the world's second busiest transportation terminal. The first decade of the 20th century were accompanied by the formation of well organized and powerful labor force in San Francisco, which is one of the most influential labors among any major United States metropolitan area. San Francisco has been associated with the internet industry boom and the last two decades have shown major growth in the internet industry.
